More Than 100 Years of Connecting Australia.

Since our beginnings in regional Queensland, Greyhound has grown to become Australia’s largest coach network.

For more than a century, we’ve helped connect communities, support regional travel and make it easier for people to experience more of Australia. Today, our network spans the country, helping thousands of people travel between major cities, regional centres and remote communities every year.

While our coaches, technology and services have evolved over time, our purpose remains the same: connecting people and places through safe, reliable and accessible travel.

Our story

Our story spans more than a century of Australian travel. From a small regional operation to a national transport network, Greyhound has continued to evolve alongside the communities we serve.

1905

AA Withers Begins

Melbourne based AA Withers begins operating coach services.

1923

Pioneer Tours

AA Withers becomes Pioneer Tours, later Ansett Pioneer.

1928

Greyhound Australia Begins

Greyhound is founded in Toowoomba, Queensland.

1940

McCafferty’s

McCafferty’s Coaches begins operating in Queensland.

1980

Ansett Pioneer

Pioneer is rebranded as Ansett Pioneer.

1985

Bus Australia

Bus Australia is established as a national coach operator.

1993

Greyhound Pioneer Australia

Greyhound and Pioneer combine to form Greyhound Pioneer Australia.

2000

McCafferty's Joins

Greyhound Pioneer Australia acquires McCafferty’s Coaches.

2004

Greyhound Australia

The business officially becomes Greyhound Australia.
