Greyhound Australia is investing in the future of coach travel, with five new coaches set to join the fleet as part of the company’s long-term network and fleet upgrade program.
The new Irizar i6S coaches, built on Volvo B13R Euro 6 chassis, will bring the latest safety technology, improved passenger comfort and lower emissions to Australia’s largest long-distance coach network.
The investment is the first step in Greyhound Australia’s broader five-year fleet procurement strategy, supporting growing demand across the network while continuing to deliver safe, reliable and comfortable travel experiences.
As passenger numbers continue to strengthen across many routes, the new coaches will help provide additional capacity while supporting operational reliability across the network.
The latest fleet expansion follows the introduction of 13 Volvo and Irizar Euro 5 coaches for regional Queensland services and builds on Greyhound’s ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience.
From upgraded seating and onboard technology to enhanced accessibility features, the new vehicles have been designed with passenger comfort and convenience in mind.
Built for Australian Roads
The Irizar i6S is one of the most advanced coaches available in Australia and is the only model currently meeting European rollover regulations.
Each vehicle features driver safety technologies, a steerable tag axle and Euro 6 low-emission technology, helping improve both safety and environmental performance across the network.
While long-distance coach travel continues to present challenges for large-scale electric vehicle deployment in Australia, these newer low-emission diesel coaches represent a significant step forward in reducing environmental impact while maintaining reliable service across vast regional and interstate routes.
Rolling Out Across the East Coast
The new coaches will begin arriving from March 2024 and will progressively enter service on routes between Melbourne and Cairns.
They will also debut a fresh Greyhound livery, including a bold new dog design, with more details to be revealed soon.
